Communion at St. John's is served in three ways:
Intinction
Communion by intinction is the traditional method of celebrating the Eucharist. At St. John's Church, the congregation moves down the central aisle, row by row, as prompted by the ushers, until they reach the Deacon or Elder holding the loaf of bread symbolziing the body of Christ. The congregant tears off a generous portion of bread, as he or she is told "The Body of Christ - the Bread of Heaven" and then dips the bread into the cup of non-alcoholic wine, symbolizing the blood of Christ being held by another Deacon or Elder as he or she is told "The Blood of Christ - the Cup of Salvation". The congregant than returns to their seat via the outside aisles.
In the Pews
Pew Communion is served to the congregation in their seats by an Elder or Deacon of St. John's Church. The bread is offered with the words "The Body of Christ - the Bread of Heaven" The non-alcoholic wine is offered with the words "The Blood of Christ - the Cup of Salvation".
Communion at Home
Communion is offered at home by a Deacon or Elder of St. John's Church to our home-bound members to those who are unable to attend Church services. This form of communion is done in the same manner as In Pew Communion.
