St. John's has a very active Presbyterian Women's organization
affiliated with Presbyterian Women of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
The purpose of Presbyterian
Women is:
"Forgiven and freed by
God in Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:
* to nurture our faith
through prayer and Bible study,
* to support the mission of the church worldwide,
* to work for justice, and peace, and
* to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God's
Kingdom."
The General Meeting
Luncheon is the 2nd Wednesday of the month at noon in Martin Social Hall, and
an interesting program is always presented.
As individuals, the PW of
St. John's meet in Circle groups for fellowship, Bible Study and support. The
PW supports several projects through their offerings:
* The Fellowship of the Least Coin
* Birthday Offerings
* Thank Offerings
When a baby is born into
the congregation, a hand made blanket is given to the family to welcome the
baby into the family of St. John's. There are presently five Circles, or
meetings, as indicated below:
* Martha Circle - 3rd Tuesday of the month at 9:30 am
* Lydia Circle - 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 pm
* Rebecca Circle - 2nd Friday of the month at 1:00 pm
* Ruth Circle - 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm
* Mary Morning Circle - 3rd Thursday of the month at 9:30 am
New members are always
welcome.
St. John's Presbyterian
Women sponsors the Annual Rummage Sale the second week of September, drawing
amazing crowds to peruse the high quality "junque" in search of the “unique”
or “a genuine treasure.” Proceeds are used to support mission projects of Presbyterian
Women and St. John's Church.
