There
are six Mariner groups, or "ships," in St. John's Church. Each
group serves a different age level and most groups provide both social and
Christian fellowship to their members.
The
purpose of the Mariner groups is:
*
To encourage Christian Faith and practice in every home, and to help families
progress in Christian living.
*
To become involved in positive ministry programs that address the total
well-being of people.
*
To interest people outside the church in uniting with the church.
*
To provide the opportunity for Christian fellowship.
*
To develop leadership for the church.
*
To support and serve the church in its total ministry and mission. Each Mariner
ship has a "cargo," a project that benefits and strengthens the whole
church. Besides the individual Mariner ships' meetings, the Fleet holds two
activities each year for all the ships meeting together: the Annual Fleet
Dinner which is followed by a fund raising program for a church project and the
"Hanging of the Greens" where the ships decorate the church for
Christmas.
