Our Programs

St. John's Children's Center is a year-round Preschool, Kindergarten, and Child Care Center licensed to serve children ages three through twelve. Programs include Preschool, Kindergarten, Before & After School care during the traditional school year, Kindergarten and Elementary care for students in the multi-track/year-round system, and Preschool, Kindergarten, and Day Camp programs during the summer months. A variety of environment schedules are available to meet your needs.

The traditional school-year program operates in conjunction with the starting and ending dates of the Washoe County School District. The multi-track/year-round program follows the schedule for the four colored "tracks" of the Washoe County School District. The summer programs operate during the 11 or 12 weeks of traditional summer vacation.

Transportation is available to several local elementary schools for an additional fee. St. John's may transport children to: Jesse Beck, Caughlin Ranch, Hunter Lake, and Roy Gomm, elementary schools.

Preschool

St. John's Children's Center offers a well–rounded program which includes Christian values, dramatic play, music, language arts, science, and art. Parents may choose one of several schedules to suit their needs and the needs of their children. Pre–school children may attend Tuesday and Thursday; Monday, Wednesday and Friday; or Monday through Friday. These schedules may all be full or half days. Activities include dramatic play, creative art, music and movement, math and science, manipulatives, stories and games, Christian values, sensory activities, cooking, outdoor play, and field trips. Children learn through their play and by participating in hands-on activities in both small and large groups.

Children must be three years old by September 30th and completely toilet-trained to enroll in the preschool program.

Kintergarten

The kindergarten program, designed to meet the developmental needs of 5 and 6 year old children, is licensed by the State Department of Education. Teachers are certified and we offer many programs, including phonics, foreign language and recorders. Children may attend morning only (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) or full–day.

Children must be five years old by September 30th to enroll n the Kindergarten program.

Before & After School Care - Traditional School Year

This program is designed for students on the traditional school year system. The program operates before school from 7:00 am until about 8:45 am when children leave for elementary school, and then again from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm for the after school program. Activities include outside play, stories and games, Christian values, computers, a short homework time (if needed), cooking, field trips, and arts & crafts.

Before and after school care is provided for elementary school children grades one through three. Children are walked to and from Jessie Beck Elementary both before and after school. We also transport children to and from Caughlin Ranch, Roy Gomm, and Hunter Lake Elementary Schools.

Summer Day Camp

There are 2 programs that operate during the Summer. One is for children who have completed Kindergarten and 1st Grade, and the other program is for children who have completed 2nd through 4th grades. These programs are called Super Summer Adventures and they are conducted as a weekly day camp program. It operates during the 11 or 12 weeks of the traditional summer vacation. There is a daily schedule, weekly themes, field trips, special events, and fun activities all summer long. Some of the events and activities include skating, swimming, bikes, miniature golf, cooking, arts & crafts, book club-library trips, games and sports, and much more! This is an active group that spends a significant amount of time outside and traveling to community events. Each week is packed with fun and adventure.

Enrollment is for full weeks only. Families may choose the weeks they wish to register for. There is a two week minimum enrollment required for the summer.
