The Spiritual Development of Children

It is the conviction of the Board of Directors of St. John's Children's Center that the fullest spiritual development of children is holistic in nature, involving the child's nurture in the home and in a Christian community on Sundays, as well as the Christian environment provided by St. John's Children's Center. Therefore, it is the policy of the Board of Director's of St. John's Children's Center to encourage the families of students enrolled in the Children's Center to be active and regular participants in the life and program of a local Christian congregation.

A Christian Values curriculum at St. John's is implemented in several ways:

Weekly Christian Values lessons. The lesson is planned and implemented by the classroom teacher on a weekly basis, usually alternating days with the Together Time program.

A short prayer or blessing, said in the classroom before snacks and lunch. The prayers are child-directed and are often ones that the children already know. The children choose prayers that are sometimes spoken and sometimes sung.

The entire school participates in "Together Time" each week. Children gather together in the sanctuary for music, a short lesson, and a prayer. Together Time is presented by the Christian Education ministry of St. John's Church.
